I loved this story based on a historical time of William the Conqueror as he invaded England and used Armies to take control. Lord Alfred knew that his time was at the end and that William had sights on Ainsworth. Elyse of Ainsworth was a spoiled child and had not outgrown it as an adult. She was allowed to practice with swords and knives as a child and even to dress in britches. She is impetuous and acts without thinking. Before Alfred dies he tells his army to surrender rather than fight and die. When Robert de Brix has comes to take Ainsworth, the Army plans to honor Alfred’s wishes, but then there is Elyse! This story is the battle of Robert and Elyse and it is full of angst and attitude. Elyse can give as good as she gets when it comes to a battle of will and wits. The plot kept me captivated, the cast of characters are entertaining and the dialog is witty.
Wow! I loved the characters and plot in this story'. She is so wild. If you love a strong historical hellion, you will love this romp.
I absolutely loved this story! It was very easy to get in to the plot and characters. The relationship between Elyse and Robert was so fun to read about. At first they were enemies, but they fell in love anyway. Plenty of action and suspense throughout!
This book has excitement and love . It goes into depth about a little girl all the way until she is a mischievous young women. I love all the trouble she gets into and the powerful soldier who falls in love with her
This is my favorite romance novel, ever. The cast of characters is so much fun. I got totally lost in the story. I'll read this one again and again. Great read.
Mild. Sex after marriage in the last two pages. Nothing really happens. Just the same old conflict of she hates him until she realizes of course how big, handsome and wonderful he is. I would not recommend this book.
I haven't read such an enjoyable medieval romance since The Wolf and The Dove. This books joins Karen Woodwiss's work on my favorites shelf. Elyse is such a feisty, naughty heroine and I was in love with the handsome, stern and sweet Robert. Will be looking forward to more from this author!
