Reality Based Fiction—Legal Thriller

www.KellogStover.com

A compelling true to life thriller that lays bare the Achilles heel of our real world criminal justice system.

The phone finally stops ringing and the voice mails taper off. The unread emails he deletes are now nothing more than spam. Antonio Feducio breathes a sigh of relief—his jealous ex-girlfriend has finally decided to leave him alone. Two days later, San Francisco police show up at his doorstep. The charge? Felony domestic violence. The crime, if proven, promises to send Tony off to prison for longer than he can bear to imagine. Unforgettable characters carry you through a story that will both break your heart and make you think.

Seen through the eyes of the accused, Blundering Justice takes us on a terrifying ride through the inner workings of the San Francisco criminal justice system. Every once in a while a novel comes along that rings so true that we wonder why we call it fiction. Blundering Justice holds a mirror to our society, adds contrast to the picture, and allows us to so clearly see what is really going on that we begin to understand the real meaning behind the phrase, “there’s truth in fiction.”

Kellog Stover’s unflinching style will thrill and enthrall you as he deals head on with the controversial topics of domestic violence and the convoluted workings of a justice system ill equipped to handle the complexities of human relationships.

Blundering Justice edition by Kellog Stover Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Blundering Justice is a very thorough and involving study of a guy who has been through the "Domestic Violence mill". It vividly conveys the states of mind and processes of the narrator as he tries to think through how, though innocent, he landed in jail and was branded a felon until he goes through all the hoops that get him out.

Though the narrator did come to understand he was in a co-dependent relationship with Caroline (his accuser) by the end of the book, his questions about why this came about, and why he felt so deeply about her are still not resolved. "People aren't butane lighters," as he says! It is understandable that when he finally speaks to her after the whole thing is over, he has no emotional energy left for her. We do see resolution in his relationship with Jazmine, and his ability to have both a friendship and a love relationship with her, without delusions.

The moving spirit of the book seems to be that, even though the civic mores of the time are very difficult to change, if people understand that the long arm of the law is sometimes falling on the innocent, things might get better. The discussion of plea bargains, and why the police and the courts need arrests to end in convictions, is timely and cogent. Questions also about the high costs of the attempt to free oneself from this net are also valuable.

Notwithstanding what is accomplished in the story, and the patience with which the narrator describes his situation, I don't feel internal changes in the narrator are noticeable in the story. I suspect that growth from the experience grew as it receded into the past. But also, if written about later, it might not have been so vivid. The narrator has good instincts and is good at learning from and working with people. But I don't see wisdom about the human condition breaking through onto the page. Like the humble Marcus Aurelius, I would like to have seen him ask "Have I forgiven insult and injury?" "Have I accepted Reality's orders of the day?" "Have I given way to despair?"
